The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced an extension of the menu labeling compliance date to May 7, 2018. Restaurant and food service establishments with 20 or more locations now have additional time to make nutrition information available to customers. This includes updating menu boards and menus to include calorie information, as well as having complete nutrition information available to customers in their establishments.

Some restaurant and food service establishments have already complied by posting calories in their restaurants and stores, but those establishments will need to maintain their menu labels to stay compliant with the regulations. Other restaurant and food service establishments are wondering what it means for them now that the menu labeling compliance date has been extended. New York City recently announced their menu labeling law is in effect. Starting August 21, 2017, restaurants and food service establishments with 15 or more locations nationally must comply or they will be fined.
