Over the past year, Mérieux NutriSciences has established a consulting partnership with George E. Dunaif Ph.D., DABT, CFS in order to better serve their clients in the area of food toxicology. In part three of this three-part Q & A, Dr. Dunaif provides some information about the toxicological services offered by Mérieux NutriSciences.
Can you provide a few examples of the types of toxicological services that you can provide through your partnership with Mérieux NutriSciences?
My main areas of focus are safety and risk assessments. In addition, I have expertise in a number of areas that include assessments of direct and indirect ingredients in foods and dietary supplements, food allergens, pesticides, heavy metals, and mycotoxins. I also have experience in leading and preparing Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) notices and related activities, such as the assessment of novel ingredients.
I have extensive experience related to providing scientific and technical support to clients related to regulatory compliance activities and recall and crisis management situations with both FDA and USDA. I have also assisted clients in addressing California Proposition 65 issues and possible testing scenarios.
I am a skilled and experienced food safety trainer in a number of areas within food toxicology, including food allergen and ingredient safety, as well as regulatory compliance requirements. Finally, in addition to helping to design a vast array of sampling plans for various chemicals, such as pesticides, mycotoxins, and heavy metals, I am an expert in helping clients interpret analytical data and prioritize findings and corrective actions where needed.
