We are fortunate to have so many great ambassadors in which our roots were built and are able to draw on their vast experiences from Silliker to Mérieux NutriSciences. The recent Romaine lettuce recall—two in the last year—has turned the leafy green industry upside down. Flashbacks of the 2006 spinach recall in California’s Salinas Valley haunt the area’s farmers, the same farmers who after the 2006 outbreak implemented stringent practices through the California Leafy Green Marketing Agreement aimed at stopping the next outbreak.

Mérieux NutriSciences renamed its North American flagship laboratory in Crete, IL, the Dr. John H. Silliker Solution Center in honor of the late founder of Silliker Laboratories. The special rededication was held on the opening day of 2015 Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Annual Meeting and Food Expo. Mérieux NutriSciences acquired Silliker Laboratories in 1997. Dr. Silliker, 92, died in March of this year following a lifetime of distinguished service to food science. Continue Reading
